Located in Regina, the heart of Saskatchewan, the Capital GMC/Buick/Cadillac auto mall struggled to keep employees and customers comfortable during the area’s hot summers and frigid winters. In the winter, the heating system had to run continuously on its highest setting, trapping so much hot air on the ceiling that overhead fluids in the shop would end up being too hot to handle. In the summer, when shop temperatures reached nearly 100°F (37.8°C), techs relied on floor fans that collected dust and grime and detracted from the clean look of the facility.
Colin Konanz, director of fixed operations for the auto mall, initially purchased four 16-ft (4.9-m) Powerfoil®X2.0 fans for one of his service shops. The fans did such an impressive job keeping the space cool that techs from the mall’s other service areas demanded Big Ass Fans® in their own facilities.
