The San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is headquartered in the historic 1917 Hallidie Building. While the building offers a beautiful setting for events and educational programs, its comfort level left something to be desired. Building management turned off the air conditioning after 5 p.m. every day, leaving evening event attendees uncomfortable. The gallery area also lacked natural ventilation and box fans offered little relief. The facility needed to cool down the gallery in a way that fit the aesthetics and wouldn’t compromise the building’s LEED Gold® certification.
AIA San Francisco worked with Big Ass Fans® to install four Haiku® with SenseME® fans, carefully placing them to avoid interfering with the facility’s moveable walls. The silent and sleek fans unobtrusively cool down event-goers and staff. Plus, with SenseME technology, the fans automatically adjust their speed to keep the space feeling cooler—so guests are more comfortable, with or without air conditioning. Haiku also enhances the building’s green credentials; and when a permitting issue came up during the installation, Big Ass Fans staff resolved it quickly.
