Case Study: Tadler Residence

We had a theme of wood, metal, glass and concrete throughout the house. The fan was a highlight and the aluminum design gave it a dynamic edge in a room of Ipe floors and ceiling. Joel Wenzel, Thomas & Denzinger Architects

Problem

Homeowners Richard and Donna Tadler teamed up with Charleston’s Thomas & Denzinger Architects on their new Kiawah Island home. The Tadlers sought to augment natural air movement on the covered porch. The goal of the space’s design was to stay true to the home’s elemental design and decor.

Solution

A 16-ft (4.9-m) cubic screened porch provides additional living space with an airy feel by a 10-ft (3-m) custom Grey’d Expectations finish Isis® fan from the Big Ass Fan® Company. “We had a theme of wood, metal, glass and concrete throughout the house,” said Joel Wenzel, AIA and LEED® AP with Thomas & Denzinger Architects. “The fan was a highlight and the aluminum design gave it a dynamic edge in a room of Ipe floors and ceiling.” With natural, elemental materials and finishes and an interconnected design, the Tadler residence embraces the Lowcountry landscape while providing thoroughly modern flourishes.
