Case Study: Burke Mountain Fire Hall

All of the feedback about the fans has been positive. The Big Ass Fans are a lot different than what is offered at other halls. They have an enormous wingspan and the variable speed options help get fresh air into the facility. Jim Ogloff, Deputy Fire Chief

Problem

Completed in 2015, the new Burke Mountain Fire Hall in Coquitlam, British Columbia, replaced the former fire hall built in the 1970s. Designed with a goal of reducing energy costs, the new facility incorporated state-of- the-art technologies, including an in-slab heating system. To enhance the hydronic heat, the new fire hall needed an efficient way to increase air movement in the 8,000-sq-ft (743- sq-m) space.

Solution

To generate reliable air circulation, the Burke Mountain Fire Hall installed four 8-ft (2.4-m) Powerfoil®X2.0 fans by Big Ass Fans®. The fans are used year-round to maintain comfortable temperatures and ensure air quality in the facility. They also keep the floor and vehicles dry, making it easier for staff to keep the space clean and safe. “The fans are always spinning,” said deputy fire chief Jim Ogloff. “We like that the technology allows them to get going at a rapid pace, and they can function more aggressively than other products.”
