Problem

Keeneland Race Track in Lexington, Kentucky, is known for the quality of its competition and the elegance of its buildings and grounds. Besides its spring and fall racing meets, the track is home to annual Thoroughbred sales that are the premier events in the industry, with graduates of its September Yearling Sale routinely dominating the competition for the Triple Crown. But the two-week sale often coincides with hot, humid weather. In the sales pavilion’s lead-in area, where horses wait to be sold and buyers gather for one last look, the stagnant air made everyone uncomfortable.

Solution

Keeneland officials tried to boost air circulation in the sales area with portable fans, but “They were obtrusive and ugly,” Associate Director of Sales Tom Thornbury said. But four Haiku® 60-inch (1.5-m) fans proved exactly the solution they needed. The cocoa bamboo and oil- rubbed bronze finishes blend in perfectly with the existing décor. Thornbury noted that the fans match Keeneland’s style: “They’re in keeping with the architecture, and they’re unobtrusive.” And best of all, the fans eliminate the stale, humid air. “They’re pretty fans that do a great job,” Thornbury said. “We’re very happy.”
