Case Study: BBVA Compass Stadium

I would recommend Big Ass Fans to any facility that has areas exposed to the heat and humidity and has a problem with air movement. It helps that the fans look appealing and that they call for little to no maintenance. Edgar Moctezuma, Engineering Manager

Problem

Visitors in the air-conditioned suites and clubs at the new BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston were very comfortable, but it was another story for those in any other part of the facility. The stadium draws thousands of people to Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash soccer games and events throughout the year, but Texas heat and a lack of air circulation caused a lot of sweating in the enclosed, non-conditioned concourse, where fans gather to buy concessions. Stadium officials knew they had to do something to improve their guests’ comfort level.

Solution

Big Ass Fans® installed four Powerfoil®X2.0 fans in the east and west concourses to create cooling zones for the formerly sweltering patrons. “There is definitely a difference in attendee comfort,” said Edgar Moctezuma, engineering manager. “They congregate under the Big Ass Fans more than in other areas.” Airflow from the Powerfoil X2.0 fans makes guests feel up to 10°F (5.5°C) cooler — a necessity in Houston’s humid subtropical climate. With average temperatures of 80° to 90°F (26.6° to 32.2°C) during soccer season, the breeze is a welcome reward for loyal fans.
