Case Study: Houston Food Bank
“
Big Ass Fans donated four Yellow Jacket fans through its charitable giving program. This donation is equivalent to 14,400 meals (17,280 pounds of food) for 4,800 people.
Scott Fortin, Director
Problem
The Houston Food Bank helps feed the metropolitan area of Houston, Texas, with nutritious meals ― close to 60 million in a single year. Hundreds of people volunteer at the nonprofit’s 130,000-sq-ft (12,000-sq-m) facility, spending their time packing, unpacking and moving crates of food, as well as keeping the whole area clean. But much of the space is not climate controlled. In Houston, the heat and humidity were serious problems, and condensation buildup on the concrete floors created frequent safety hazards.
Solution
The Food Bank received a grant from Big Ass Fans® for four Yellow Jacket® mobile fans, and Director Scott Fortin said the volunteers love them. “You crank those things up and they move a huge volume of air.” And he sees a big difference in how quickly the floors dry, thanks to the fans. Previously, constant opening and closing of the door between the cold storage and dry dock areas created a “perfect storm” for condensation. “Now we use the Yellow Jacket fans, and they keep the space cool, clean and dry,” Fortin said.
