Case Study: Jessamine County Fire Department
“
The Big Ass Fan has worked great for us. I would recommend the fans to any fire departments with big, open spaces if they want to balance out the heat and reduce fuel bills.
Mike Rupard, Fire Chief
Problem
In winter, high ceilings in the Nicholasville, Kentucky, firehouse forced gas heaters to run constantly to keep the environment warm. Air near the ceiling of the truck bay was typically 15°F (8.4°C) warmer than air at the floor. The colder the weather, the worse the problem – extremely cold temperatures put fire truck water pumps in danger of freezing. During summer months, the space easily overheated due to sunlight entering through eight 14-ft (4.3-m) glass doors. The fire department needed a solution that would provide consistent temperatures year-round.
Solution
One 16-ft (4.9-m) Big Ass Fan helps balance the temperature in the space, creating a comfortable, controlled atmosphere while reducing energy consumption during the winter months. Big Ass Fans® use their immense size and aerodynamic design to recirculate trapped heat from the ceiling down to floor level where it is needed. In the summer, the Big Ass Fan creates gentle, cool breezes that flow throughout the station, keeping occupants comfortable and dispersing unwanted fumes and emissions from running trucks.
