Case Study: The Brooklyn Bowl
“
Incorporating the Big Ass Fans is something that really, really works for us. Our customers notice that the fans make them more comfortable, and they look cool in the space. Now we're getting the same cooling benefits in the desert as we do in Brooklyn.
Charley Ryan, Co-Owner
Problem
Charley Ryan set out to transform a 130-year-old iron factory in Brooklyn, N.Y., into a bowling alley that goes way beyond balls and pins. He dreamed up a true entertainment destination, with craft beer, food and live music alongside the strikes and spares. Maintaining the space’s retro, industrial look was key, but Ryan also wanted to take the space into the new century by earning LEED® certification for environmentally sound construction. But Ryan knew his bottom line would suffer if that smaller carbon footprint left his patrons sweltering during concerts or other big events.
Solution
Four 10-ft (3m) Powerfoil® fans keep Brooklyn Bowl customers comfortable and ease the burden on the alley’s HVAC system. By combining Big Ass Fans® and air conditioning, building managers can adjust their thermostats to save up to 30% on cooling costs. Ryan was so pleased with the results that he installed two Powerfoil X2.0 fans at Brooklyn Bowl’s new Las Vegas location. Vegas Seven magazine recently named the site the city’s “Best New Venue” and offered a nod to comfort with a “Best Ventilation” award, an honor Ryan attributed in part to Big Ass Fans.
